About
Dr. Bret Wagner
Bret Wagner is the performer, composer, producer, and educator behind the independent label "Megalotone." He has dedicated his entire life towards trying to understand how music works, and he claims to be "almost" ready to share his findings.
Before even learning how to tie his shoes, Bret began studying the piano with his mother. Eventually, he reached the age where he was old enough to join the school band, and after twenty+ years, three degrees, and countless travels, he is finally finding time to practice!
Bret has performed on euphonium/trombone/piano both as a soloist and with numerous bands, orchestras, and various other ensembles. For over 30 years, he has taken every performing opportunity made available to him, whether it was playing out of the bed of a truck in a parade, playing on a cruise ship, producing a recording session, sitting with a professional orchestra in a concert hall, or performing the Mexican National Anthem at a Formula 1 race... at least from what he can remember. What has stuck with him the most, though, is the experience he has gained from working alongside numerous world-class professional musicians.
In addition to performing, Bret has worked with and studied closely with experts in the field of music production in order to achieve his lifelong goal of becoming a well rounded independent composer and producer of new music. He also enjoys music theory.
As a teacher, Dr. Wagner has classroom experience with every level from preschool to university, and his studies and research have led him to develop a vision for music education that is more accessible to people from all walks of life. He continues to broaden his focus by gathering, modernizing, and developing resources for his students’ wide variety of interests, backgrounds, and goals. Dr. Wagner strives to set an example for his students not just as a professional musician, but also as a curious learner of the ways in which music can be integrated into all aspects of life.
